"A drinking team with a skiing problem."
If that doesn't tell you everything you need to know, keep reading.
The Southampton Ski Team isn't really a ski team.
There are no tryouts.
No coaches.
No standings.
No one is handing out trophies for the fastest trip to the bottom of the mountain.
(Although there have been plenty of debates about who deserves bragging rights at the bar afterward.)
The Southampton Ski Team is a tradition.
Founded in 1999 by Geoff and Tom "Sheepdog", it started with a simple idea: gather a group of friends, travel somewhere great, ski as much as possible, and create a few stories worth telling.
The first adventure was a two-week trip to Whistler.
Nobody realized it at the time, but they weren't just planning a ski trip.
They were starting a tradition.
What began as a group of friends quickly became something much bigger—a yearly gathering of skiers, storytellers, and people who believe life is better with snow on the ground and good friends nearby.
Over the years, the Southampton Ski Team has grown into a family made up of bartenders, chefs, restaurant workers, doctors, lawyers, business owners, tradespeople, teachers, lifelong East End locals, and just about anyone who shares the same appreciation for mountains, memories, and a good time.
Yes, we ski.
We chase fresh powder, enjoy bluebird days, and occasionally convince ourselves that our legs have one more run left in them.
But the real competition has never been about who gets down the mountain first.
It's about who tells the best story afterward.
The Southampton Ski Team is built on friendships formed over chairlift rides, shared meals, long nights, questionable decisions, and moments that somehow become funnier every time they're retold.
Some stories have become legendary.
Some stories have been carefully edited.
Some stories are still under review.
But every trip has the same goal: bring good people together, enjoy the mountains, and create memories that last long after the snow melts.
Because this has never been just a ski trip.
It's a tradition.
It's a family.
It's a drinking team with a skiing problem.
Welcome to the Southampton Ski Team.
